Terms & refunds
1. Who we are
MycoField (“we”, “us”) provides the MycoField web app at www.mycofield.com. You can contact us at help@mycofield.com. By creating an account or paying, you agree to these terms.
2. What MycoField is, and what it is not
- MycoField combines public weather, soil-moisture, terrain and official habitat data into an experimental Conditions Index for grassland fungi in general. The index is not a probability and has not been scientifically validated. It can be wrong.
- It does not identify fungi and gives no advice on whether anything is edible or safe. Many fungi are deadly. Never eat a wild mushroom unless an expert has identified it in person.
- Third-party data (for example Open-Meteo, Natural Resources Wales, Natural England, the Rural Payments Agency, NatureScot and OpenStreetMap) can be incomplete, out of date or temporarily unavailable. We show where each figure comes from but cannot guarantee it.
3. Out in the field
You are responsible for your own safety and for following the law and the Countryside Code (or the Scottish Outdoor Access Code). In particular: get the landowner’s permission where you need it, follow byelaws on nature reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest, don’t pick protected species, and look, photograph and record rather than collect. MycoField shows public data; it does not give you a right of access to any land.
4. Price and access
- £8 (including any VAT) for a year (365 days) of full access, starting when your payment is confirmed. It is a single payment with no subscription and it never renews automatically.
- £2 (including any VAT) for a week (7 days) of the same full access, also a single payment that never renews.
- Buying again before your access ends adds the new period on top. Anyone who bought the earlier 90-day access has had it extended to a year.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Access is linked to the email address you sign in with. Keep that address working so you can sign in on new devices.
- New visitors get a short walkthrough and a brief free look before paying.
Spot credits (optional add-on)
- £20 (including any VAT) buys 10 spot credits, as one payment with no subscription. Credits last 12 months from purchase; unused credits then expire. You need a signed-in account with MycoField access to use them.
- Each night we score England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland with the Conditions Index and keep the spots that score 90 or more, sit on unimproved (semi-natural) grassland confirmed by official or OpenStreetMap habitat data (never bog, heath or woodland), and are on land the public can walk: open-access land or registered common land in England and Wales, or land covered by access rights in Scotland.
- One credit reveals one spot: the best available that day in the nation you choose. The app shows how many spots each nation has before you spend anything. If a nation has none, you can’t spend a credit there; keep it for another day. There is no guarantee of spots in any particular nation, region or distance from you, or on any particular day.
- A spot is revealed to at most 5 people in any 7 days, and never twice to you. Revealed spots stay in your account.
- A spot’s score is for the day it was revealed. A high score means recent weather, terrain and habitat have been favourable; it is not a promise that anything is fruiting. Section 3 applies in full: access land can have local restrictions, and some spots lie on or near protected sites.
5. Cancelling and refunds
- Your 14-day right to cancel. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content. Because MycoField unlocks immediately, at checkout we ask you to agree that access starts straight away and that you then lose this right to cancel. If you ask within 14 days and haven’t used the paid app, we will refund you in full anyway.
- If something is wrong. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected. If the app does not work as described, tell us and we will fix it. If we can’t, we will give you a full or partial refund.
- Spot credits. If you ask within 14 days of buying and haven’t used any credits, we’ll refund you in full. Once you reveal a spot, that credit’s content has been supplied and can’t be returned, but unused credits from the same purchase can be refunded within those 14 days. If a revealed spot turns out not to be as described (for example, not access land), tell us and we’ll give the credit back.
- Outages. If MycoField is unavailable for a significant part of your year because of a fault on our side, we will extend your access or refund you in proportion.
- A refund is not available just because you didn’t find fungi. The app is a guide to conditions, not a promise of finds.
- To ask for a refund, email help@mycofield.com from your account email. Refunds go back to the original payment method, normally within 14 days.
6. Your account and data
You own the observations and areas you record. You can export them at any time (History → Export) and ask us to delete your account. See the privacy policy for details. Please don’t share your account, misuse the service, try to get around the paywall, or scrape or overload the app or the data services it uses. We may suspend accounts that do.
7. Liability
We provide MycoField with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for decisions you make based on it, for losses that were not foreseeable, or for the accuracy of third-party data. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid in the previous 12 months. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
8. Changes
We keep improving MycoField, and the index and its inputs will change as evidence builds. We may update these terms. If a change materially affects paid access you already have, we will tell you, and you can ask for a proportionate refund.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
